1.2 States of Matter Three States of Matter Solid – has a fixed shape that does not conform to the container shape. Liquid – conforms to the container shape but fills the container only to the extent of the liquid’s volume; thus a liquid forms a surface. Gas – conforms to the container shape also, but it fills the entire container, and thus, does not form a surface.
Exercises Give at least 5 examples of solid, liquid, and gas that are found in your home. Answer the following questions. Have you tried getting a very cold soft drink from your refrigerator or buying one from the store? What did you observe outside the soft drink bottle after a while? What do you think is this? Explain how it happen.
