Sample Problem: A ladder leaning against a wall makes an angle of 65° with the ground. If the
foot of the ladder is 5 feet from the wall, how high up the wall does the ladder reach?
Solution: We can use the formula: sin(θ) = opposite/hypotenuse = sin(65°) = height/5 ft
To find the height, we can rearrange the equation: height = 5ft * sin(65°) = height = 4.53ft
So, the ladder reaches approximately 4.53 feet up the wall.
The Pythagorean Theorem states that the square of the longest side is equal
to the sum of the squares of the smaller sides of a right triangle.

Sample Problem: Find the exact value
of sin(150°).
Solution: We can use the unit circle to
find the exact value of sin(150°).
1. Locate 150° on the unit circle:
This angle is in the second
quadrant.
2. Identify the coordinates of the
point: The coordinates of the point
corresponding to 150° are (-√3/2,
1/2).
3. Determine the sine value: The y-
coordinate of the point represents
the sine value.
Therefore, sin(150°) = 1/2.
