HISTORY Constructed in 1591, the landmark is a symbol of Hyderabad and officially incorporated in the emblem of Telangana. The Charminar's long history includes the existence of a mosque on its top floor for more than 425 years. While both historically and religiously significant , it is also known for it's popular and busy local markets surrounding the structure and has become one of the most frequent tourist attractions in Hyderabad . LOCATION Charminar, historic monument located at the heart of Hyderabad, west-central Telangana state, south central India. The city, which is the capital of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh state, was also the capital of the historic princely state of Hyderabad. Hyderabad It is Telangana’s largest and most populous city and is the major urban centre for all of south-central interior India. The Charminar, a grand architectural composition in Indo-Saracenic style with open arches and four minarets, is regarded as the supreme achievement of the Qutb Shahi period. It formed the centrepiece around which the city was planned. Hyderabad has become a hub of trade and commerce and an international centre and information technology (IT). BY- ABHIJEET PRASAD

ARCHITECTURE Charminar is famous for its intricate architecture, which makes it one of the most recognized structures of India. The surroundings Laad Bazaar and the four hundred years old mosque on the top floor of the Charminar make it famous amongst locals as well tourists. It formed the centrepiece around which Hyderabad was planned. Now regarded as one of the supreme architectural achievements of the Qutb Shahi period, the Charminar is a grand architectural composition in Indo-Saracenic style. It is built of granite and lime mortar with stucco ornamentation. The square structure measures 66-feet to a side. Each side faces one of the cardinal directions and has a pointed arch that is 36-feet wide at the base and reaches 66-feet high at its apex. BY- AKASH

SPECIFICATIONS The Charminar is a beautiful monument and mosque in Hyderabad, India. It was sculpted in 1591 AD and is the centre of the attraction of Hyderabad. It is one of the most famous and renowned monuments of India. The structure is made of limestone, granite, pulverized marble and mortar and weighs around 14,000 tonnes. The Charminar features a perfectly square-shaped structure that is 20 metres long on each side. Four grand arches and four exquisite minarets placed at the four corners lend the monument a distinctive look. Each of the minarets is four-storied, 56 metres tall, has a double balcony, and features a dome-shaped structure on its top. There are 149 steps leading to the upper floor of the monument from where you can a get a bird’s-eye view of the city and the surrounding marketplace. BY- ANKIT MISHRA
