INTRODUCTION Each of us has his/her own way of looking at our own and other people’s development . These paradigms of human development while obviously lacking in scholastic vigor, provide us with a conceptual framework for understanding ourselves and others. Scholars have come up with their own models of human development . Back up by solid research , they take a stand on issues of human development .
THREE ISSUES IN DEVELOPMENT >Nature versus Nurture >Continuity versus >Discontinuity >Stability versus Change
1. Nature versus Nurture Nature refers to an individual’s biological inheritance. Nurture refers to environmental experiences .
Continuity versus Discontinuity Continuity refers to the cumulative change while discontinuity is the distinct change that happens to a certain individual person. Is development like that of a seedling gradually growing into an acacia tree? Is it more like that of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly ?
Stability versus Change Stability is described as being constant while change is described as modifications or alterations. Are you the same since you exist in the world or have you been developed into someone unique from who you were before?
