education in America. Thomas Galludet has an interesting story about what led to

In 1814 when a young Thomas was visiting his family, he noticed a young girl with
no friends. When he went to speak to her about why she wasn t playing with
anyone, he learned she was Deaf and had no way of communicating. Thomas taught
