1. STORY-4 CLEVER BIRBAL

2. Akbar was one of the greatest emperors in Indian history. He had many wise men in his court. Among them, Birbal was Akbar’s favourite because of his wit and wisdom.

3. One day, Akbar and Birbal were walking in his garden. Akbar said, “See, that servant is very lazy! He has been resting under that tree. I will throw him out!”

4. Birbal said, “No, Your Majesty, I can make him the most hard-working servant.” Akbar smiled and agreed.

5. Akbar saw from a distance that Birbal walked past the servant. The servant suddenly got up and started watering the flowers. From then onwards, whenever Akbar saw him, the servant would be working really hard.

6. A few days later, Akbar asked Birbal , “What did you do to that servant? He has become so good!” Birbal smiled and said, “Your Majesty, as I passed the servant that day, I said aloud that you had asked me to promote the hardworking servants to guards.

7. I also said that I would make some servants my spies and they would tell me who was good. Thus, this servant is always working hard before all others, thinking they could be my spies!” Akbar laughed and said, “ Birbal , you are really intelligent!”
