Abstract:- measurements of heights of buildings , towers e.t.c ..By use of simple tools like laser , protractor and mathematical trigonometric functions. Incident the laser on the building whose height is to be calculate and find the distance between the laser & the building on tower whose height is to be measured .then by trigonometric function calculate the height. height =tangent of angle x distance
What is a clinometer : A clinometer or inclinometer is an instrument for measuring angles of slope (or tilt), elevation or depression of an object with respect to gravity. It is also known as a tilt meter , tilt indicator , slope alert , slope gauge , gradient meter , gradiometer , level gauge , level meter , declinometer , and pitch & roll indicator
Different types of clinometers
Our model:
Procedure : pick a object (I measured a telephone pole). You should be far enough away from your object that you can see the top of it, and you need to be on level ground with the base of the object. I like to set something down by my feet once I've picked my spot, so that I can easily come back to it .
Measuring the angle First try to arrange the laser setup from the pole and so that the laser point can reach the top of the pole. second project the laser to the top of the pole. if you carefully observe, a right triangle is formed and measure the angle between the line of laser to the horizontal surface .
MEASURING DISTANCE : Once you have your angle of vision, use your tape measure to find the distance from the spot you're standing to the base of the object you're measuring . We must know how far away you are to accurately calculate the height. .
Calculation of a clinometer is to measure the height of trees, which is easily done. A point should be marked with a stake as far from the centre of the trunk of the tree as its estimated height, so
Applications: Measuring steepness of a ski slope Setting firing angle of a cannon or gun(determines projectile range) We can measure the distance of the plane from the surface Certain highly sensitive electronic clinometer sensors can achieve an output resolution to 0.0001 degrees-depending on the technology and range, it limited to 0.01.
precautions Assume the path between the building and the point of projection of the laser to be in straight line. While measuring the angles check the parallax error. See that there are no objects present between the laser and the point of projection

Conclusion : This is one of the simplest method for the calculation of heights up to certain range. It costs very low and can be prepared very easily
