CO-EDUCATION Comparing with international level

INDEX Introduction The Role and Importance of Co-education But what actual role does  co-education  play in the lives of the students? Opportunities Co-Education Good or Bad Disadvantages of co-education system

Introduction Mixed-sex education , also known as  mixed-gender education ,  co-education  or  coeducation  (abbreviated to  co-ed  or  coed ), is a system of education where males and females are educated together. In ancient times, co-education was started in Greece. Today, this system of education is there in almost all the countries of the world. It is economical. It generates a spirit of comradeship between boys and girls.

Co-Education in modern world Co-education is a modern concept. It was first introduced in Switzerland but later on it spread to other countries as well. In our country, it is popular only in professional institutions.  The interaction between boys and girls at this age helps in their practical life later on. Co-education also produces a healthy competition. The boys become more civilized and polished in the presence of girls. The girls also stand to gain something in the presence of boys.

But what actual role does  co-education  play in the lives of the students? Co-educational schools better reflect the diversity of our society and they better prepare students to succeed in post-Secondary education and to eventually enter the workforce. In a co-educational learning environment, students are exposed to both male and female role models in staff and senior students.

Economical Perspective There are a number of advantages in the co-educational system of education. It is economical. Poor countries cannot afford to open separate schools for boys and girls. If boys and girls are taught together in the same school, then there will be no need to open separate schools for them. Thus, the cost to be incurred on building infrastructure, furniture, stationery, personnel recruitment, etc. will be saved.

Co-education in Pakistan..? It is considered to be the highly recommended system for modern education. In Pakistan, this modernized educational system is adopted by some of the English medium private schools. Till the present day. Co-education has always remained a controversial issue in Pakistan. A large number of populations is strictly against this system.

CO-EDUCATION – GOOD OR BAD First of all, I would like to highlight this issue from religious perspective.  Islam is the only religion which gave so many rights to women . Amongst them one was that education was made compulsory for women. Where on one hand Islam tells men and women to seek education, at the same very time it condemns both men and women.  Women should get education but remaining within constraints of religion. They should go to colleges, universities but not without “Hijab”. The standard of modernization should not be measured with limited clothes

Advantages of co-education system : Develop mutual respect helps to overcome the fear of opposite gender Healthy competition Develops self esteem among the genders No space for discrimination Character enhancement

Disadvantages of co-education system : Chances of distraction should be more More involvement in personal feelings More chances for unethical activities Unwanted arguments and issues can create unhealthy environment
