Community Engagement, Solidarity, and Citizenship Core Values and Principles of Community-action Initiatives
Questions Think of a time when your community came together to solve a problem. What made it successful? What role did you or others play? Today, let’s explore how we can become responsible and empowered members of our communities.

Questions 1. Why is it important to promote human rights in your community? 2. How can young people help achieve gender equality? 3. What is one community initiative you would like to start or support? 4. How can advocacy lead to empowerment?
1. Grouping: Divide the class into 5 groups (4–6 students each). Assign each group a theme based on the learning competencies: Group 1: Human Rights Awareness Group 2: Gender Equality Group 3: Social Equity Group 4: Community Empowerment Group 5: Participatory Development
2. Community Scenario Planning: Each group will create a fictional barangay (community) with: Population description (youth, elderly, minority groups, etc.) A key issue (e.g., lack of access to education, gender discrimination, child labor, youth disengagement, etc.)
3. Task: Design a community action plan to address the issue. Include the following in their plan: ✅ The core value being applied (e.g., respect, cooperation, equity) ✅ Who are the stakeholders? (e.g., youth, LGU, NGOs) ✅ A specific initiative (e.g., info drive, skill workshop, gender-sensitivity seminar) ✅ Tools of advocacy (e.g., posters, social media, community meeting) ✅ Expected impact or result
4. Output: Groups will present their plan in poster or roleplay format. Each group has 5–7 minutes to present. Encourage creative expression — students can use visuals , skits , or mock campaigns .
