Computer Ethics & Cyber Security Safe, Smart & Responsible Use of Technology
Icebreaker Who here has a social media account? Who plays online games? Do you think everything on the internet is true?
What is Computer Ethics? Ethics = Right vs. Wrong in the digital world. Good ethics: respecting privacy, being honest online. Bad ethics: hacking, cheating, stealing content.
What is Cyber Security? Protecting devices, accounts, and information from online dangers. Like wearing a helmet for your online journey.
Types of Cyber Crimes Hacking – Breaking into others’ accounts. Phishing – Fake messages/emails to steal info. Cyberbullying – Hurting others online. Scams – Tricks to steal money or data. Piracy – Downloading without permission.
Social Media & You Social media = Fun + Learning + Connecting. Dangers: fake profiles, oversharing, addiction. Safe Use Tips: Use privacy settings, don’t share personal photos publicly, report fake accounts, think before posting.
Protecting Privacy Don’t share: address, phone number, school name. Ask permission before posting friends’ photos. Use strong passwords. Log out after using shared computers.
AI & Robotics: Ethics AI: Machines that ‘think’ (Alexa, ChatGPT). Robotics: Machines that act (vacuum robots, drones). Questions: Should robots replace humans? Can AI decide fairness? How do we use AI responsibly?
Legal Consequences Cyberbullying: Fines, police complaint. Hacking/stealing data: Crime under IT Act. Piracy: Heavy fines, even jail. Even kids can face action if they misuse technology.
Netiquette (Internet Etiquette) Be polite in chats/emails. No spamming. Respect different opinions. Think before you type.
Real-Life Example (Story) Riya shared too much info on social media → Stranger created fake profile → Friends got fooled → She had to delete her account. Lesson: Protect your privacy!
How to Stay Safe Online Use antivirus & updates. Strong & different passwords. Don’t meet online strangers alone. Ask parents before downloading apps. Report anything suspicious.
What To Do If You Face Trouble Tell parents or teachers immediately. Use ‘Report’ and ‘Block’ features. Don’t reply to bullies/scammers. Keep proof (screenshots, messages).
Quick Quiz (Activity) Sharing school photos publicly – Safe or Unsafe? Using password like ‘1234’ – Safe or Unsafe? Reporting a bully to teacher – Safe or Unsafe? Downloading paid games for free – Safe or Unsafe?
Summary Ethics = Right online behavior. Cyber security = Protection from threats. Be aware of scams & frauds. Protect your privacy + respect others. Technology misuse = Legal consequences.
Closing Thought Your digital footprint is permanent. Be the kind of person you’d like the world to see – kind, smart, and safe online.
