Consumer Awareness and its Importance Consumer Awareness is an act of making sure the buyer or consumer is aware of the information about products, goods, services, and consumers rights. Consumer awareness is important so that buyer can take the right decision and make the right choice  Consumers need to be able to obtain accurate, unbiased information about the products and services they purchase. This enables them to make the best choices based on their interests and prevents them from being mistreated or misled by businesses 

Consumer Rights Right to Safety:  Consumers have the right to be safe from dangerous goods and services. The products they buy should meet their long-term needs. Right to be Informed:  Consumers should know everything about what they’re buying, including its quality, amount, strength, purity, standards, and price. Right to Choose:  Consumers should have choices and access to various goods and services at competitive prices, including necessary goods. Right to be Heard:  Consumers’ needs and interests should be a top priority. They should be listened to by appropriate consumer welfare groups or committees set up by the authorities or the government. Right to Seek Redressal :  Shoppers should know they can file complaints and seek justice against unfair trade practices. This includes the right to a fair solution if their complaints are valid. Right to Consumer Education:  This includes being aware of fair trade practices and making informed decisions when buying products. It also means respecting other shoppers’ rights and helping them with legal matters.

Consumer Awareness in India – Jago Grahak Jago Consumer awareness campaign- Jago Grahak Jago is the campaign which has shielded consumers against marketing malpractices and has successfully redressed consumer complaints. The campaign Jago Grahak Jago was started in 2005 by the Department of Consumer Affairs under the Ministry of Consumer and Public Distributions by the Government of India. The Slogan “Jago Grahak Jago”  means wake up consumers has now become very popular in almost every household. Following is the list of the channels used by the Government to meet the objectives of the “Jago Grahak Jago” awareness program. Media Advertisements Video Campaign Posters Printing Audio Campaigns

Consumer Responsibilities Be an Ethical Consumer Be fair and not engage in malpractices. Be aware of the quality and safety of goods and services while purchasing. Collect information about a product or service and update yourself with changes or innovations of prevailing technology. Think and make choices independently matching your needs. Speak out, inform manufacturers and governments of needs and wants . Complain or inform business along with other people about discontentment with a product or service in an honest way.

Conclusion Consumer awareness means being aware of having the knowledge about the several consumer production laws, rectified techniques, and consumer rights which include the right to protection of health and safety from goods and services that consumers purchase, right to be informed about the price, quality, quantity, potency, and standard of goods
