Republic Act 10192 - CPD Act of 2016 Key points of RA 10192: Upgrades the practice of professions in the Philippines. CPD programs should be formulated and implemented nationwide.
Objectives of RA 10192 Enhance competencies and qualifications of professionals. Ensure international alignment of competencies. Develop mechanisms for validation and accreditation of learning outcomes. Maintain core competencies and develop new ones. Recognize contributions of professionals to national development.
Types of CPD Programs - Formal learning - Non-formal learning - Informal learning - Self-directed learning - Online learning activities - Professional work experience
a. Formal learning- This refers to structured educational programs that usually take place in an institutional setting, such as universities, colleges, or training centers. Examples include: Earning a degree, diploma, or certificate Attending accredited workshops, conferences, or seminars Completing official training courses with assessment or certification These activities are planned, organized, and usually lead to recognized qualifications.
b. Non-formal learning- This type of learning happens outside traditional educational institutions but is still organized and intentional. Examples: In-house company training programs Short courses or professional workshops Industry-related seminars without formal assessment Non-formal learning helps professionals gain job-related skills or knowledge but might not lead to a formal qualification.
c. Informal learning-Informal learning is unstructured and self-motivated. It occurs naturally through day-to-day experiences, such as: Learning from colleagues or mentors Reading professional materials or articles Participating in community or professional discussions It is often unplanned but still contributes significantly to professional growth.
d. Self-directed learning- This means taking personal responsibility for your own learning by identifying what you need to learn and finding ways to achieve it. Examples: Creating a personal development plan Studying online resources or books Independently Setting goals for professional improvement This type of learning encourages lifelong learning habits and independence.
e. Online learning activities-These include digital or virtual learning formats, such as: Webinars, e-learning courses, and MOOCS (Massive Open Online Courses) Virtual workshops and online certification programs Podcasts or video lectures related to your profession Online learning is flexible and accessible, fitting easily into a professional's schedule.
f. Professional work experience- this involves learning gained directly through on-the-job practice. Professionals develop their skills, knowledge, and judgment through: Performing daily tasks and projects Managing clients or teams Solving real-world problems within the workplace Work experience provides practical learning that reinforces theoretical knowledge.
