CORTICOBULBAR TRACT.

CORTICOBULBAR TRACT
IT IS COMPOSED OF THE FIBERS THAT
pass from the motor cortex to motor neuron
in the trigeminal ,facial and hyoglossal nuclei.
Cortibulbar neuron end either directly on the
cranial nerve nuclei or on their antecedent
interneuron within the brain stem.
Their axon travels through the genu of the
internal capsule the cerebral peduncle to
descend with corticospinal tract fibers in the
pons and medulla

Corticobulbar tract neuron are pyramidal
shape and located in layer v of the cerebral
cortex.
The cortical areas from which these tracts
originate were identified on the basis of
electrical stimulation that produced promt
discrete movement.

The pyramidal tract fiber to the motor cranial
nuclei(particularly v,v//, x//) contitute the
corticobulbar tract.

FUNCTIONS OF CORTICOBULBAR
TRACTS.
Responsible for voluntary control of muscles
of larynx,pharynx,palate,upper and lower
face,jaw,eye etc.
Pseudobulbar palsy is a condition resulting in
paralysis or weakness of the muscles which
conrol swallowing,talking,tongue and lip
movements due to bilateral lesion of the
tracts.
