Coursework Presentation - Inception of Scholar's Life

This presentation was prepared as part of PhD coursework. It delves into the Scholar's Life through Inception movie by Christopher Nolan with Richard Altick's views.

As Howard Mumford Jones noted in his scholarly article - ‘The Social Responsibility of Scholarship’ that,

“Our business, as I understand it, is to find out in a humble spirit of inquiry what literary masterpieces really say.” (Jones)
Research is more than just discovering new information; it is our duty as scholars to contribute something original and insightful to society. This process continues indefinitely.

Introduction : As Howard Mumford Jones noted in his scholarly article - ‘ The Social Responsibility of Scholarship’ that, “ Our business, as I understand it, is to find out in a humble spirit of inquiry what literary masterpieces really say.” (Jones) Research is more than just discovering new information; it is our duty as scholars to contribute something original and insightful to society. This process continues indefinitely.

What is ‘Inception’ : According to Merriam Webster dictionary, an act, process, or instance of beginning - commencement Britannica Dictionary defines: the time at which something begins When a research scholar chooses to enter a field of study, their conception begins to take shape. So we can say that, the inception of a scholar's journey begins with their enrollment in the program.

4. Knowledge is a basic equipment As Altick mentioned, scholar’s basic equipment is a knowledge of the authoritative editions of literary correspondences. ( Altick) There are times in every scholar’s life when he cannot bear even to think of his current project, let alone do any of the reading or writing it requires. ( Altick) a music-synchronized " kick " (using the French song " Non, je ne regrette rien ") in the movie - Inception.

5. Continue…. For the final proof of the scholar’s maturity, as it is the ultimate justification of the profession to which he has dedicated himself, is the book that contains the essence of a thousand books and articles and reveals in bold outline the patterns of art and thought that hitherto were hidden under the weight of detail. 7. Conclusion: In a similar way to how Dom Cobb relied on the spinning top to maintain his awareness of reality in the movie, as research scholars, we must remain grounded within the scope of our research projects and academic fields. Thank You.
