History of Covid-19 COVID-19 = Corona Virus Disease 2019. Crown-shaped virus with spikes. Originated in Wuhan China in Nov 2019. China concealed this outbreak until late Dec 2019. Virus had spread to the rest of the world. New cases were declared in Europe, USA & rest of Asia. 1 st case in Cameroon 6/03/2020, within 2 weeks, No. of new cases had risen in DLA & Yde. Gov’t took special measures including closure of schools from Primary to University level.

Situational Analysis Worldwide: 4.790.000 confirmed cases, 1.780.000 recovered cases & 318.000 deaths. U.S.A : 1.540.000 confirmed cases, 289.000 recovered cases & 90.000 deaths. Cameroon: 3.529 confirmed cases, 1.567 recovered cases & 140 deaths. North West Region: Over 20 cases confirmed with 5 deaths.

Clinical Presentation. First 4-5 days of infection: No symptoms. 6 th to 7 th day : Mild Temperature 38°C. 8 th to 9 th day: Throat irritation/Cough. 10 th to 12 th day: Shortness of Breathe (SOB)/Pneumonia.

Disease Evolution Asymptomatic: They don’t even know they have the infection but can go on infecting others. (Majority) Mild Disease : Easily treated with available treatment. Severe Cases: Those with preexisting conditions may necessitated admission in ICU. (Requiring ventilators etc).

Preexisting Conditions Any previous condition susceptible to reducing the immune system of the victim. Cancers, AIDS, uncontrolled Diabetes, Kidney & Heart Disease from HTN, TB, Viral Hepatitis etc.

Covid-19 Transmission Mainly through infected droplets from Coughing, Sneezing Speaking/Talking

COVID 19 Preventive Measures in Schools. Total disinfection of School Campuses before children return to school. Availability of Hand washing facilities in school before children return to school (Potable Running Water, Soap, Buckets with taps, disposable towels/tissues etc). Effective hand washing techniques taught in school. Provision of hand sanitizers in schools. Systematic wearing of face masks by all pupils and staff. Effective social distancing measures in class and around campuses. No sick pupil or staff should be allowed in school.
