Four Great Beast in prophecy
THE INTERPRETATION OF THE FOUR BEASTS
The Lion is a king of the beasts ; The eagle is lord of the air. Ancient Babylon was a mighty empire. (History reveals to us that a Winged Lion was evidently the official symbol of the Babylonian Kingdom)
Dan. 7:5 Medo -Persia
How were the Persians able to enter the heavily fortified Babylon so easily? Herodotus, "the father of history", Greek writer and traveller of the fifth century BC, states that the armies of Cyrus the Great diverted the waters of the Euphrates, causing the river level to drop in its flow beneath the city wall. At the right moment, when the palace revelry was at its height, the Persians entered via the river bed and stormed the citadel. Belshazzar was slain. The end had suddenly come for the Babylonian Empire (538BC).
In 539 BC, Medo -Persia, prophetically represented here as a bear with three ribs in its mouth, supersedes Babylon. The three ribs , no doubt, stand for the three great conquests that brought the Medo -Persians to power - Egypt, Lydia and Babylon were crushed and destroyed.
