Definition of Translation According to Catford (1965): 'The replacement of textual material in one language (SL) by equivalent textual material in another language (TL).’ Newmark (1988) also says: 'Rendering the meaning of a text into another language in the way that the author intended the text.
Translation Theories Translation theories are scholarly frameworks that discuss the principles, methods, strategies, and approaches involved in the translation process. They help translators understand how to accurately, naturally, and contextually transfer meaning from the Source Language (SL) into the Target Language (TL).
Linguistic theory Focus on the relationship between SL and TL Emphasize structure, grammar, lexis and syntax Example; analyzing differences between the passive voice in English and Indonesian 2. Translation theories are not only about how to translate words, but also about how to preserve meaning, effect, and function in the target language. Each theory has a different focus, and translators often combine several approaches depending on the text and context . Conclusion
