The Lumber Industry

Lumbering The process of bringing down trees in the forest. It is divided into two major activities Cutting & Milling

CUTTING Felling and cutting of trees into logs and transporting into the mill

Milling Logs are sewed into lumber and seasoned until they are suitable for use . May be seasoned by air or kiln drying to prevent it from wrapping and stop the growth of fungi and other insects.

Plywood Thin sheets of glued wood panels with a top layer of veneer. Veneers are bound with glues or plastic substances called synthetic resins.

Laminated Wood Made of two or more layers of wood bound together by a synthetic resins Used as arches, church, airplanes and bridges.

Fiber board A sheet made of vegetable. Used as insulating material in buildings

Pterocarpus indicus

It is a large deciduous tree growing to 30–40 m tall, with a trunk up to 2 m diameter. The leaves are 12–22 cm long, pinnate, with 5–11 leaflets, the girth is 12-34 m wide. The flowers are produced in panicles 6–13 cm long containing a few to numerous flowers; flowering is from February to May in the Philippines,The hardwood, which is purplish, is termite resistant and rose-scented.

The flower is used as a honey source while leaf infusions are used as shampoos. Both flowers and leaves were said to be eaten. The leaves are supposedly good for waxing and polishing brass and copper. It is also a source of kino or resin
