This study aims to investigate students’ awareness and perceptions of intercultural competence and its significance focusing on their engagement with global partnerships facilitated by digital platforms and technological tools . Research Objectives Back to Agenda
AWARENESS: what is the level of student awareness regarding intercultural competence in technology-mediated environments. QUANTITATIVE METHODS To measure the level of awareness across a broad student population. QUALITATIVE METHODS Interview : to explore the students perspective of existing digital exchange programs to provide concrete examples RESEARCH METHODOLOGY ICETOL Back to Agenda
QUANTITATIVE METHODS Likert scale questions will be used to collect data on awareness levels . The collected data undergo statistical analysis using SPSS to present a comprehensive overview of student awareness . QUALITATIVE METHODS Using an unstructured interview, the study will be gathered data on students’ perspective on intercultural competence. The collected data undergo thematic analysis using NVIVO to present a comprehensive overview of student perspective. RESEARCH METHOD ICETOL The survey and interview will be administered to representative sample of students from the Philippines and from Indonesia, either in person or online. The Philippines cohort will be drawn from Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, while the Indonesian participants are from Universitas Muhammadiyah Kendari.
Expected Outcomes PROVIDE A BASELINE: a clear, data-driven description of the current level of student awareness regarding digital intercultural competence.. IDENTIFY KEY PERCEPTIONS: Uncover the primary factors students believe contribute to successful (or unsuccessful) global partnerships (e.g., communication ease, cultural sensitivity, tool reliability). Highlight Impact: Demonstrate a positive correlation between engagement with specific digital tools (e.g., virtual exchange programs) and the development of global competencies. CLT-BIPA training module for English Education students. Evidence of CLT’s effectiveness in BIPA contexts. Policy recommendations for BIPA teacher training. ICETOL
Curriculum Design: Integrating meaningful digital intercultural projects based on what works. Faculty Development: Training educators on facilitating online global collaboration and addressing identified challenges. Institutional Policy: Supporting and funding virtual exchange initiatives proven to be effective by the data. Student Preparedness: Equipping students with the specific skills the data shows are critical for success. . Implications for Practice
