Subject: Science Class: IX Textbook: Science (NCERT) Topic: Cell Organelles Time: 40 minutes School:- Dhenuchosa High School Teacher:- Madhab Ch. Boruah No. of students: 19 Average age of students: 14 yrs Date:20/05/2024 DIGITAL LESSON PLAN Identification of Data

TEACHING POINTS 1) Concept of Cell Organelles 2) Types of Cell Organelles a) Lysosomes b) Mitochondria

Specific Objectives : Knowledge: All the pupils will be able to – i ) Define cell organelles after teacher’s discussion. ii) Name of the cell organelles which is referred as suicide bag. iii) Name the cell organelles which is referred as power house of a cell. iv) State one characteristic of mitochondria after teacher’s explanation. v) Write the full form of ATP produces by mitochondria after teacher’s discussion.

b) Understanding- Most of the pupils will be able to- Explain the structure and function of lysosomes after teacher’s explanation. Explain structure and function of mitochondria after teacher’s discussion. c) Application:- A few pupils will be able to- Describe why lysosomes is called suicide bag of a cell. Give reason why mitochondria is referred as the power houses of the cell after teacher’s discussion.

Skill: A few pupil will be able to draw labelled diagrams of lysosome and mitochondria Assumed previous knowledge : Cell and it’s three main parts (namely cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm) Endoplasmic reticulum

INTRODUCTION 1.What is cell ? 2. What are the different parts of a cell ? 3. What is Cytoplasm ? 4. Name the structures present in cytoplasm besides nucleus ? ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE TOPIC - Being satisfied with pupils answer the teacher will announce the topic ‘CELL ORGANELLES’

PRESENTATION : 1.Concept of Cell Organelles- The cellular components are called cell organelles. This includes both membrane and non-membrane bound organelles, present within the cells and are distinct in structures and functions. They coordinate and function efficiently for the normal functioning of the cell. e.g. lysosome & mitochondria Evaluation: Q. What is cell Organelles ?

2. Types of cell Organelles- a) Lysosomes - ( i ) Definition- They are sphere shaped sacs filled with hydrolytic enzymes that have the capability to break down many types of biomolecules . (ii) Structure- Lysosomes is a membrane bound organelles and the area within the membrane is called lumen. Lumen contains the hydrolytic enzymes and other cellular debris.

Structure of Lysosomes

(iii) Functions: The enzymes present in lysosomes break down many types of biomolecules such as proteins and fats. They are called suicide bags because they tend to destroy cell membrane with its digestive enzymes causing lysis of the cell Video on function of lysosome lysosome . mp4

Evaluation: - 1)Which cell organelles is called suicide bag of a cell? 2) Explain structure and function of lysosome ?

2.(b) Mitochondria : i ) Definition- Membrane bound organelles present in cytoplasm of both plant and animal cell. (ii) Structure- Comprises an outer membrane and inner membrane and a gel like material called matrix It has it’s own DNA and ribosome.

Structure of mitochondria

(iii) Function - Produces ATP(Adenosine Triphosphate ) which is the main energy currency of the cell. It is called the power house of a cell. Video on function of Mitochondria Mitochondria - Powerhouse of the Cell _ Don't Memorise.mp4

Evaluation : 1.What is the function of mitochondria ? 2. State one characteristics of mitochondria? 3. What is the full form of ATP ? 4. Explain structure and function of mitochondria? 5. ‘Mitochondria is referred as the power house of a cell’. Why? Give reason.

Achieving Closure: Generalisation Cell organelles are cellular components present within the cells. They are distinct in their structures and functions. Lysosome is a membrane bound cell organelle. It contains digestive enzymes whose specific function is to break down cellular waste and debris. It mainly found in animal cell. Mitochondria is a double membraned rod-shaped structure found in both plant cell and animal cell.

Evaluation : 1. Differentiate between nucleus and mitochondria? 2. If there is no mitochondria in a cell, what will happen ? Homework- 1. Draw a labelled diagram of the structure of mitochondria and lysosome .
