has worked with the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations since
1999 and in digital libraries in general since 1996. His research interests include
aspects of digital library theory, architecture, and interoperability.
Stevan Harnadwas born in Hungary, did his undergraduate work at McGill
University and his graduate work at Princeton University, USA, and is currently
Canada Research Chair in Cognitive Science at University of Quebec/Montreal.
His research is on categorization, communication and cognition. Founder and

Rebecca Hartland-Foxwas (until April 2003) a researcher on the eVALUEd
project. She has worked in HE and FE libraries and has now moved into the area
of library training. Her specialist research areas are Education, HE libraries and
Information Design.
Jan R. Hollowayis Manager of Publications at University Information Technology
Services (UITS) at Indiana University, USA, overseeing publications initiatives for
UITS and the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology and CIO.
As a long-time contributor to the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
SIGUCCS special interest group, she has written and presented on issues in IT
publishing, and received numerous awards for her publications. She is also a
member of the Society for Technical Communication. Before joining Indiana
University she was a writer/editor in a research division of theNew York Times.
Diane Nester Kreshis Director for Public Service Collections at the Library of
Congress. She directs a staff responsible for 15 of the Library’s reading rooms,
including the historic Main Reading Room, and for custody and security of more
than 113 million items in the Library’s general and special collections. She received
her BA degree in Theater and MLS degrees from the Catholic University of
America. Diane Kresh was the founder of the Collaborative Digital Reference
Service (now QuestionPoint, a service co-developed by LC and OCLC), a project
to build a global, web-based, reference service among libraries and research
institutions. She is a frequent speaker at professional meetings and conferences and
