DIGITAL
DIGITAL Traditionally, digital means the use of numbers and the term comes from digit, or finger.
DIGITAL Today, digital is synonymous with computer.
DIGITAL In teaching, it is defined as any instructional practice that effectively uses technology to strengthen a student’s learning experience and encompasses a wide spectrum of tools and practices.
Deped guidelines on digitalization
“We have come a long way and we learned a lot from the pandemic, but the greatest takeaway from this past year is that we have to be willing, flexible, and embrace technology,” -- Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones
DIGITAL RISE PROGRAM
May 10, 2022 Committed to addressing the challenges in digital learning and education technology, the Department of Education ( DepEd ), through the Information Communications Technology Service (ICTS), reported the milestones of its Digital Rise Program during the 2022 World Book and Copyright Day Celebration.
The Digital Rise Program, spearheaded by Undersecretary for Administration Alain Del Pascua through the directives of Secretary Briones, is an educational framework that anchors to the infrastructure, software, and capacity building of learners and teachers in technology.
3 MAJOR COMPONENTS According to the report presented by ICTS Director Abram Y.C Abanil , the Digital Rise Program has three major components.
First of these components is the Digital Literacy , where K to 12 curriculum is updated to include productivity tools like Word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations for Grade 4 to Grade 6 . 1.
Grade 7 learners will have basic programming skills subject while grades 8 to 10 will have multimedia concepts as a subject focusing on video editing and graphics design. 1.
Lastly, vocational skills like computer servicing, technical drafting, and broadband installation are assigned to Senior high school students. 1.
Through its second component, the ict assisted teaching, deped aims to provide teachers with equipment, software content, and skills for their daily classroom teaching. 2.
The program also envisions providing laptops, smart tvs , and lapel speakers to each teacher and classroom. 2.
Lastly, the ict assisted learning for learners component of the program aims to grant access and adaptability through deped learning management system (DLMS) and synchronous blended learning. 3 .
Deped provided laptops and tablets to learners and teachers and the continuation of the public education network through the deped computerization program.
Deped also partnered with Microsoft and google to continuously provide software to it stakeholders.

z Deped order no. 016, s. 2023 Revised guidelines on the implementation of the deped computerization program (DCP)
The Highlights of the event include the launch and inspection of the new set of computer packages to be deployed to schools starting this year;
the announcement of timelines for the delivery and installation of the said packages;
and the introduction of new theft and fencing countermeasures.
DIGITALIZATION On Data gathering
Benefits of integrating digitalization in data gathering:
Digital data collection methods like using tablets or computers can provide an efficient and accurate way to assess student performance.
IT SAVES TIME from manual work through automation.
Gains actionable and data-driven insights.
Teachers can then review this data to identify areas of strength and weakness and develop individualized instruction plans accordingly.
Some of the ways digital data collection can occur include the following:
1. Online tracking systems
2. spreadsheets
3. Gathering data using tablets or computers
4. Using apps or software to track progress in reading, math, and writing skills.
5. Video recordings of student performance.
6. Audio recordings of student interactions with teachers or reading fluency.
7. Administering quizzes and tests.
Digitalization in teaching
Traditional classroom instructions fall short of providing an immediate learning environment, faster evaluations, and more engagement. In contrast, digital learning tools and technology fill this void.
With smartphones and other wireless technology devices becoming popular among the general public, it only makes sense that schools and educational institutions make efficient use of them by putting technology in the classroom.
Students can learn from the convenience of their own homes.
The utilization of projectors, computers, and other cutting-edge technical gear in the classroom may make studying fascinating and entertaining for students.
Applications of digital technologies in education:
1. Improve teaching productivity.
Teaching productivity may be improved by using advanced technological aids, which facilitate better planning, easy and practical learning, quick assessment, better resources, new skills, etc.
2 . Develop online libraries.
Technological advancements have helped create and develop online libraries.
3. Promote distance learning.
Teachers may quickly build and manage groups using learning tools and technology such as social learning platforms.
5 . Create virtual classroom.
Digital technologies in education have given rise to various learning management systems (LMS). These lms have promoted virtual classrooms where a teacher can interact with students in real-time, share his resources, deliver his lecture, and reply to their queries.
4. Creating inclusive learning environments.
An inclusive environment provides an equal opportunity for each student with different ability levels to learn in the same place.
6. Developing teamwork and communication skills.
Teamwork and communication skills are two crucial attributes that help develop a successful professional. Digital technologies play an essential role in developing these skills.
7 . Enhanced access to educational resources.
Access to educational resources anytime is now possible, seven days a week. Even parents can access these resources and check the quality of lectures and notes.
8 . Transformed the innovative way of learning.
Students are encouraged to bring computers to class so that they may access a variety of materials quickly.
9 . Convenient teaching and learning.
Internet-based learning resources are now widely available. Students can continue their education at home by employing digital technologies.
10. Dynamic learning.
Technology provides a dynamic classroom environment by digitizing textbooks and incorporating links and qr codes to study and assess course subjects.
Digitalization in curriculum
It is about integrating digital curriculum resources into every aspect of the learning process.
Common digital curriculum resources
1.CLASSROOM PORTALS Provides students used-friendly access to lessons, schedules, learning resources, and more.
2. DIGITAL LESSONS Designed to guide students through the learning experience in ways that are interactive and highly effective.
3. DIGITAL TEXTBOOKS Gives students access to course materials via the web and/or apps on digital like smartphones and e-readers.
4. VIRTUAL SESSIONS Connect students to teachers and other students in real time so they can learn and collaborate virtually.
Benefits of digitalization in curriculum
A digital curriculum can engage learners with various learning resources.
These learning technology programs can offer a highly motivating and engaging learning environment.
A digital curriculum allows students to arrange their daily learning in a way that lets them improve their learning outcomes.
Accessibility
Anywhere, anytime learning.
The flexibility and engaging lessons of a digital curriculum allow students to build skills like responsibility, perseverance, creativity, and adaptability.
