Identification of Data: NAME OF THE SCHOOL: REBAKANTA BARUAH PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL Class: VIII-B Sub: Science Topic: Friction Number of students : 22 Date: 21/05/2024 Name of the teacher : Dulumoni Borah Roll No: 17 Time: 40 minutes Average age of pupils: 12+ Textbook: Science DIGITAL LESSON PLAN
TEACHING POINTS 1 ) CONCEPT OF FRICTION 2) FACTORS AFFECTING FRICTION 3) APPLICATION OF FRICTION IN DAILY LIFE
Specific Objectives: KNOWLEDGE: After teacher’s discussion all the pupil will be able to define friction. After teacher’s digital presentation all the pupil will be able to say the direction of frictional force act on moving object. After teacher’s digital presentation all the pupil will be able to say the three factors affecting friction .
Understanding : After teacher’s digital presentation most of the pupil will be able to give examples of friction they have seen in their daily life. After teacher’s digital presentation most of the pupil will be able to explain the dependence of friction on the nature of the surface.
Application : 1) After teacher’s digital presentation a few pupil will be able to give reason why more force is required to pull heavier object than the lighter object on the same surface. After teacher’s digital presentation a few pupil will be able to analyse why the football players use shoes with spike.
Skill: After teacher’s digital presentation few pupil will be able to construct model using application of frictional force in daily life. STUDENT’S PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: Students already knows about concept of force ,contact and non contact force ,concept of object in motion and rest.
Introduction: How many of you know to ride bicycle ? How do we slow down a bicycle? Why the bottom surface of our shoes have irregularities? What happens when we steps on a banana peel? The teacher will ask students the following question .
Announcement of the topic: Being satisfied with the pupil's answers the teacher will announce the topic “FRICTION”
Presentation: 1. FRICTION: Friction is defined as the resistance offered by the surfaces that are in contact when they move past each other. For example, we use car brakes if we want to stop or slow down because of the friction created between the brakes and wheels that slow/stop the car down.
Evaluation An apple is falling downward . What are the forces action on it? Is the apple is experiencing frictional force? If yes ,what is the direction of frictional force? ? ? ?
2. Factors Affecting Friction The force of friction may alter depending on the following factors that affect it: .
FACTORS AFFECTING FRICTION
The teacher will explain the factors affecting friction by showing a video . https://youtu.be/zozUN91bedk?si=ofWFQp0GJarIUx_v
Applications of Friction Friction finds application when matchsticks are ignited. Motion of pistons in a cylinder is an application of friction. It is possible to write on books and board as there is friction between pen and the board.
Evaluation • Why more force is required to pull a heavier object than a lighter object on the same surface? • Why there are wheels are given on trolley bags?
ACHIEVING CLOUSER: GENERALISATION: ‘Friction‘ is a force that resists motion of sliding or rolling of one object moving relative to another. It is a result of the electrostatic attraction between the charged particles of two touching surfaces. Factors affecting friction are – • nature of the surface • weight of the object • area of contact
Evaluation What enables us to fix nails in a wall and knots to be tied? Why will a pencil write on a paper, but not on a glass? How lubricants work?.
HOME ASSINMENT: Q1. Friction is a necessary evil. Establish. Q2. Suggest ways to reduce unnecessary friction in daily life.
