Nurses practice person-centred, evidence-based care to support patients, or deliver preventative health initiatives in a variety of health settings. There are nearly 300,000 Registered Nurses in Australia working in public, private and community settings. Students who complete the Bachelor of Nursing are eligible to register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and can therefore practice as a Registered Nurse – Become a Registered Nurse What is a Registered Nurse? Course structure FIRST YEAR Clinical placement: 200 hours (25 days) 1 X two-week placement in Autumn session 1 X three-week placement in Spring session SECOND YEAR Clinical placement: 280 hours (35 days) 2 X two-week placement in Autumn session 1 X three-week placements Spring session THIRD YEAR Clinical placement: 360 hours (45 days) 1 X three-week placement in Autumn session  1 X six-week placement in Spring session Full-time standard program:

Clinical placements We’re affiliated with 100+ clinical settings with an agreement with every local health district in Sydney The UTS Clinical Practice Unit allocates nursing placements on students’ beha lf, within a 90minute commute from home (via public transport) Smaller, more intense placements mean they’re relevant to your subjects e.g. mental health Placements occur in 2-6 week blocks , on weekdays , with AM or PM start times Final 6 week placement in speciality area of practice e.g. Emergency Department UTS students also have the option to go on a rural and remote placement – E.g. Alice Springs, Wagga Wagga, Orange, Bathurst, Bega, Tamworth, Air Ambulance

Unique placement opportunities with local health districts e.g. Northern Sydney Local Health District collaborative placement: Students are invited to apply for a position in this program in their first year of study All placements are completed within this local health district Students work as casual Assistants in Nursing (paid position) once they have completed their first clinical placement Students become preferred candidates for new graduate positions

About the new Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) From 1 July 2025, eligible domestic students will be able to access $331.65 per week while undertaking a mandatory placement in a Bachelor of Nursing. The payment will be delivered through UTS. Proposed eligibility criteria, relevant to the UTS Bachelor of Nursing: Domestic student Enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) Completing the Bachelor of Nursing Undertaking mandatory placements that are on average 30 hours or more per week for the duration of the placement AND EITHER: Be on a Commonwealth income support payment OR Meet means-testing criteria based on a ‘need to work test’ + an individual income threshold Find more info: education.gov.au/commonwealth-prac-payment-cpp

Travel abroad Study tours are typically offered twice per year Students have the opportunity to take part in study tours to countries like Malaysia and Fiji : Travel with students & staff from nursing and public health The study tour will be subsidised by a grant to reduce costs for students wishing to attend through the New Colombo Grant program The study tour is attached to a relevant Bachelor of Nursing subject in the 2 nd or 3 rd year of study The experience enhances students' understanding of nursing in countries with very different health systems to Australia.
