STEPS TO DIY ‘PEDICURE’
Remove old nail paint
First of all get a nail paint remover of nice quality and ‘cotton balls’ to remove the old nail paint
remains completely from your nails.
Soak your feet
Now soak your feet in warm water and bathing salt or any soap of your choice to soften the cuticles
and dead skin. Keep your feet sunk in water for 15 minutes to exfoliate skin in a better way.
Clean up the skin
The advantage of ‘getting a pedicure’ at home is that you know your skin the best. You can
emphasize the most typical areas of your feet and can increase or decrease the pressure accordingly
while cleaning with ‘loofah’ or ‘foot cleaning brush’.
File your feet
Start filing your cracked heels after removing your feet from the water tub. Make sure that your
feet must be slightly wet because exfoliation is done best on that specific stage. Choose ‘pumice
stone’ or ‘foot file’ to rinse off dead skin of cracked heels. Now again sink your feet into the water
and wash it thoroughly. Now swipe off your feet with a towel and let them dry completely.
Cut and file your nails
Next step is to cut your nails by a toe ‘nail cutter’ in circular, square or rectangular shape with
round ends, depending upon the original shape of your nails. Now file them with a ‘nail filer’ to
enhance its shape.
Prepare your cuticles
After cutting your nails in shape, it’s time for preparing the cuticles on nails. Slightly push them
back or cut them by laying the cuticle pusher on the nail bed. Try not to be hard on them as it may
injure or peel the sensitive skin around the nail. Select a ‘cuticle trimmer’ to trim the cuticles or
‘cuticle pusher’ to push them backwards. After this process you can apply astringent or alcohol
on the sensitive skin to prevent it from getting septic.
Shine up your nails
Give a shine to your nails by buffing them with nail buffer. Run the ‘nail buffer’ on the entire nail
to buff away any ridges and peeling. Make sure not to overdo it though, as over buffing can injure
the nail. Smoothen the tops of your nails with a finer ‘buffer’ and reach any imperfection left while
buffing. You can also massage your nails with olive oil to add some shine to them.
Prepare for polish
Select a nail paint of your choice and prepare your feet for that step. Always use ‘toe nail
separators’ to distance the toe nails. It makes the application of nail paint easier and smoother.
Apply Vaseline on the nails before putting on the nail polish to keep your nails healthy. Sit in a
position where you can reach your feet comfortably and start polishing.
Apply base coat
One should always apply a base coat, before applying any nail colour to prevent ‘feet nails’ from
losing their natural tone. As you may have experienced that excessive nail polishing make them
appear a little yellowish. The base coat saves the nail bed from its harmful reactions.
Apply the nail paint
Now apply your favourite nail colour in three strokes and leave it to dry. Always test the smooth
application of nail paint before applying it. It should be free of clumps and at its best liquid
form. After drying the first coat, you shall go on with the second coat of nail colour. This time try
to cover the left areas at first step. Double coats are a must if you want your nail paint to last longer
and be chipped free.
Finish the ‘pedicure’
Now you are almost there on the finish line of getting softer feet. This step includes cleaning up or
giving a final touch up to your feet. Swipe off any extra nail paint on the edges of your nails. You
can use cotton ‘earbuds’ and nail paint remover to carefully swipe off the extras on the nail.
Moisturise your feet well with a body lotion that suits your skin type. Repeat the same, next time
you need beautiful and younger looking feet.
