EARLY LIFE Ennackal Chandy George Sudharshan Indian theoretical physicst Born On1931 September 16 In Pallam , Kottayam Son Of E.A Chandi And Achaama Studied At CMS College Kottayam Graduation & Post Graduation- Madras Christian College(1949-1954 ) Married Lalitha Sudaeshan Died: 13 may 2018 {aged 86}

CAREEAR Worked at Tata Institute Of Fundamental Research with Homi Babha Work under Robert Marshak as a graduate student in university of Rochester,Newyork Got Ph.D on 1958 from Rochester University, Newyork Joined as postdoctoral fellow with Julien Schwinger, Harward University

He taught at the TIFR From 1969 onwards, he was a physics professor at the university of Texas at Austin He was a senior professor at the Indian institute of science Worked as the director of the Institute of Mathematical Science ( IMSc ) Chennai

INTRESTED AREAS Elementary particle physics Quantum optics Quantum information Quantum field theory Gauge field theory Vedanta

CONTRIBUTIONS Originator of V-A theory Developed quantum representation of coherent light later known as Sudharshan - Glauber representation This representation proves the equivalence of classical wave optics to quantum optics This representation also predicts optical effects that are purely quantum and cannot be explained classically

First to propose the existence of “ TACHYONS”-particle that travel faster than light

Developed dynamical maps to study the theory of open quantum system Proposed the quantum zeno effect with Baidyanath Misra Initiated the “quantum theory of charged particle beam optics”

Awards Kerala sastrav puraskara for lifetime accomplishments in science,2013 Dirac medal of the ICTP,2010 Padma vibhushan , second highest civilian award from the Govt. of India,2007 Majorna Prize,2006 TWAS Prize,1977

Padma Bhushan , third highest civilian award from the Govt. of India,1976 C V Raman award,1970
