ECLECTISM The term eclectism has been derived from the verb root 'elect’ which means “to choose and pick up” The good ideas, concepts and principles from various schools of thought have been chosen, picked up and blended together to make a complete philosophy. It can be considered as a philosophy of choice .

3. ECLECTISM It is a philosophical thought which combines all good ideas and principle from various schools of philosophy.

4. ECLECTISM It is a conceptual approach that doesn’t hold rigidly to a single paradigm or set of assumptions, but instead draws upon multiple theories, styles or ideas to gain complementary insights into a subject or applies different theories in particular cases.

5. Need for ECLECTISM in education No philosophy contribute to all aspect of education. No philosophy is fully fledged. We need an integral education for all round development.

8. ECLECTISM AND curriculum Teaching material should help the child to familiarize themselves with life/life centered. Curriculum should envisages the development of essential skills, desirable attitudes and social values. The subjects are Arts, Science, Mathematics, Geography, History etc.

10. ECLECTISM AND method of teaching Teacher should have knowledge of every method. Adopt a teaching method according to the circumstances, taking in view the interest of child. Eg: Problem solving method, Play way method, Learning by doing etc can be used.

12. ECLECTISM AND role of teacher Friend, guide, philosopher, director of the class, arranger of experiences.

14. ecLECTISM AND place of school The function of school is to prepare dynamic citizens to participate in the social activities successfully. School is miniature society which develops dynamic, enterprising and resourceful citizens.
