CURRICULUM MAPPING Justine Marist P. Limocon Presenter
CURRICULUM MAPPING What is it???
CURRICULUM MAPPING Curriculum mapping is a methodical process that involves outlining the learning objectives, teaching activities, and assessment methods across the curriculum to ensure alignment with educational goals . It serves as a blueprint that guides educators in delivering content effectively, identifying gaps in the curriculum, and fostering coherence within and across grade levels or courses.
CURRICULUM MAPPING CAN BE DONE BY: Teachers alone A group of teachers teaching the same subject The department The whole school or district or the whole educational system.
PRIMARY ELEMENTS OF CURRICULUM
When instruction is delivered What is taught PRIMARY ELEMENTS OF CURRICULUM How instruction occurs
WHAT DOES IT OFFER TO THE SCHOOL?
helping teachers understand what is taught and when in all subject areas and all grades; 1. assisting teachers in creating unified interdisciplinary units that foster students' understanding of concepts, ideas, and activities across many subject areas; 2. assisting specials in scheduling performances and field trips without interfering with major testing blocks in the academic subjects and homerooms; 3. helping coordinate areas of study into larger interdisciplinary units (even if they are assessed separately by subject area); 4. A curriculum map is useful in:
acting as a successful venue for fostering conversation about curriculum and instruction among all faculty members; 5. assisting the students in finding "common threads" of understanding between a specific academic subject and other subjects; 6. assisting teachers in reflecting upon and adjusting their own lesson units during the school year. 7. A curriculum map is useful in:
WHY DO IT?
Curriculum mapping makes it possible to identify where in the program learning objectives are addressed Use it to create, verify, or clarify an alignment between what students do in their courses or co-curricular experiences and what faculty expect them to learn. Helps identify gaps as well as opportunities for assessment
SUGGESTED STEPS TO FOLLOW IN MAKING CURRICULUM MAP
1. Make a matrix or a spread sheet. 2. Place a timeline that you need to cover. (one quarter, one semester, one year). This should be dependent on time frame of a particular curriculum that was written.
3. Enter the intended learning outcomes, skills needed to be taught or achieved at the end of teaching. 4. Enter the same matrix the content areas/subject areas to be covered. 5. Align and name each resource available such as textbooks, workbooks, module next to subject areas.
6. Enter the teaching-learning methods to be used to achieve the outcomes. 7. Align and enter the assessment procedure and tools to the intended learning outcomes, content areas, and resources.
8. Circulate the map among all involved personnel for their inputs. 9. Revise and refine map based on suggestions and distribute to all concerned.
