SCHOOL AND SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS Social institutions are essential structures of society that fulfil the needs of the society and build the society itself. The five major social institutions in large societies are: family, education, c) religion, d) politics(government), and e) economics (economic institutions)

SCHOOL AND SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS The family is the basic social institution in the society. It functions to produce and rear future generations, provide love and affection to the children, provide sense of identity and belongingness to its members and transmit cultural norms from one generation to another. It is the responsibility of the family to provide economically for its members and facilitate the socialization process. Children learn to adhere to certain social values in the society mainly through the family unit. The life long process of learning starts in the family shortly after birth. A) FAMILY

SCHOOL AND SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS Education is a social institution through which a society's children are taught basic learning skills and academic knowledge, and further transmission of cultural norms as well. The goal of education is to develop children into human persons dedicated to create human communities of love, empathy, relationship, autonomy, fairness and harmony among other values. B) EDUCATION

Religion is a social institution because it includes beliefs and practices that serve the needs of society. In all modern states, governmental functions have greatly expanded with the emergence of government as an active force in guiding the country’s social and economic development. E) GOVERNMENT

SCHOOL AND SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS In general, the government has the function to keep and maintain order in the society as seen in the legislation of laws, law enforcement and existence of courts, provide public services which are administered in schools, hospitals, parks and other concerned agencies, provide security to the people/nation which are evident in the prevention of crime and protection of citizens in all forms of attack , and guide the community while managing the economy and conducting foreign relations among other relevant undertakings. E) GOVERNMENT
