Forms of ET ET-1 Hardware Approach ET-2 Software Approach ET-3 System Approach Forms of Educational Technology

Distinction between hardware and software technologies points Hardware technology Software technology 1. Meaning Machine approach, its main basis is physical science, use of machines in teaching and learning. Silverman has termed this technology as Relative Educational Technology Instructional technology, use of theories in teaching and learning. Silverman has termed this as constructive Educational Technology 2. Assumption Feedback can be used in human behavior Change or modification in human behavior is possible. Effective teachers can be prepared. 3. Mutual relationship For the completion of hardware, software is essential. Without hardware, software can work, such as –lesson planning programmed instruction etc. 4. Principles Feedback is used Feedback and reinforcement are used 5. Media Hardware has minimized the pupil-teacher distance. Hardware has developed distance education Software has made great contribution towards the expansion of education through open university 6. Teaching aids The use of machines as teaching aids has made possible providing original experiences The learning conditions can be created 7. Examples Radio, television, computers, projector, movie, audio-video, tape recorder etc Programmed instruction, teaching models, micro teaching, simulated teaching, etc. 8.Uses helpful in making teaching- learning interesting Helpful in achieving teaching objectives
