The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched India’s first educational Satellite EDUSAT , on September 20, 2004 into the Geosynchronous Transfer orbit, the face of Indian education is all set to undergo sea change. The EDUSAT as it is being called going to have 72 channels ready to be beamed from the height of 36,000 miles. The entire program preparation constituted three stages, The first stage is already in operation with Ku-band transponder on board INSAT -3B being used as part of the pilot project.

4. In the second stage the satellite would be used in semi-operational mode with at feast one uplink in each of the five (Ku-based) spot beams. In this stage, about 100-200 classrooms would be connected to each of them, providing educational programmes to an estimated 50000 students.This stage is expected to last for about two years. The third stage or the final stage shall be reached when content transmission starts, the proposed satellite is going to give us far greater outreach and connectivity than hither to possible.

5. It is expected that this satellite would offer instructional facilities in the multi-media mode and video on demand service EDUSAT is a culmination of India’s determined efforts to launch an exclusive educational satellite.

7. This exclusive satellite for education will overcome the search of quality teachers, Cocept of education with no classrooms, no teachers and no books would become a reality. Science classes and laboratory experiments too can thus be beamed from a virtual class. A single lecturer can reach 10,000 students at the same time. The lecturer can be stored as computer file and the students can access it according to their convenience Audio CD can also be made is necessary.
