What is Calibration? Calibration is the process of comparing a measuring instrument’s readings with a known, accurate standard to ensure its measurements are correct, reliable, and traceable to national or international standards, and adjusting it if necessary to minimize errors

Importance of Calibration Accuracy – Ensures instruments give correct measurements. Reliability – Maintains consistent performance over time. Safety – Prevents accidents caused by faulty readings. Compliance – Meets industry standards and regulations. Traceability – Links measurements to recognized standards.

Indian Standards (IS) Indian Standards (IS):1. *Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS):* BIS is the national standards body of India, responsible for developing and maintaining Indian Standards. 2. *Standards Development:* BIS develops standards for various products, services, and systems to ensure quality, safety, and performance.

International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a global standards organization that prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic, and related technologies — often called electrotechnology . It works to ensure uniformity and safety in areas like power generation, transmission, electronics, renewable energy, smart grids, and more. The IEC brings together experts from different countries to create technical standards that are accepted worldwide, helping industries, governments, and consumers use compatible, safe, and efficient technologies.
