Elements and Compounds Sir Emman

Lesson Objectives Describe the properties of elements and compounds. Classify substances as elements and compounds based on their observable characteristics. Determine the elements and compounds based on their observable characteristics. Determine the elements and compounds present in the environment. Discuss the importance of elements and compounds in your daily life.

Elements in the Environment

Overcoming nervousness Elements in the Environment In Earth’s Crust In Earth’s Water In Earth’s Atmosphere Oxygen 46% Oxygen 85% Nitrogen 78% Silicon 28% Hydrogen 11% Oxygen, argon, neon, and other gases 21% Aluminum 8% Chlorine 2% Gases 1% Iron 5% Sodium 1% Calcium 3% Others 1% Sodium 3% Potassium 2% Magnesium 2% Others 3% 100% 100% 100%

Elements in the Environment Oxygen is the most prevalent element in the Earth’s crust. Oxygen predominates in water, accounting for 85% of its composition. Nitrogen is the most abundant gas in the earth’s atmosphere, accounting for 78% of the total.

Names and Symbols of Elements Oxygen is the most plentiful element in the human body. Oxygen combines with food in the body. Effective body language enhances your message, making it more impactful and memorable. Meaningful eye contact Purposeful gestures Maintain good posture Control your expressions Elements Symbols Latin Name Gold Au Aurum Carbon C Carbo Copper Cu Cuprum Hydrogen H Hydro Calcium Ca Calx Iron Fe Ferrum Nitrogen N Nitrum Potassium K Kalium Silver Ag Argentum Sodium Na Natrium Antimony Sb Stibium Tin Sn Stannum

Compound A compound is a pure substance that a chemical change can break into simpler substances with a fixed mass ratio. A molecule of a compound has a definite number of atoms. Most pure substances are compounds. If one carbon atom combines with one oxygen atom, the resulting compound is carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas. One atom of carbon and two atoms of oxygen result in carbon dioxide, which is necessary for everyday life.

Examples of Compounds Your ability to communicate effectively will leave a lasting impact on your audience Effectively communicating involves not only delivering a message but also resonating with the experiences, values, and emotions of those listening  Compound Chemical Formula Alcohol C 2 H 5 OH Ethyl Alcohol Ammonia NH 3 Ammonia Baking Soda NaHCO 3 Sodium bicarbonate Carbon dioxide CO 2 Carbon Dioxide Carbon monoxide CO Carbon monoxide Limestone CaCO 3 Calcium carbonate Sand SiO 2 Silicon dioxide Table Salt NaCl Sodium Chloride Table Sugar C 12 H 22 O 11 Sucrose Vinegar CH 3 COOH Acetic acid
