Elements of a Story Using 'The Giving Tree '
Characters The Giving Tree (the tree that loves the boy) The Boy (who grows up and changes through the story)
Setting O utdoors near the tree.
Events/ Plot Beginning: The boy plays with the tree. Middle: As the boy grows, he takes more from the tree. End: The boy is old, and the tree gives him a stump to sit on.
Conflict / Problem The boy always wants more, while the tree gives everything until it has almost nothing left.
Resolution / Solution In the end, the boy, now an old man, only needs a place to rest. The tree, now just a stump, is still able to give him that.
Theme The story teaches us about: - Love and sacrifice - Giving without expecting anything in return - The importance of gratitude
Quick Activity Think about the story: 1. Who are the characters? 2. Where is the setting? 3. What is the problem? 4. How is it solved? 5. What is the lesson?
