Literary Elements/Devices of Poetry Imagery i s used to make readers perceive things involving their five senses.  Examples: The old book had water spots across its spine. Some of the pages were yellowed. The warden's keys clanked as he walked past the cells.

Literary Elements/Devices of Poetry Simile It is a direct  comparison  of things to show the meanings of the thing being compared. Uses the words “as” and “like”. Examples: He is as slow as a sloth. The teacher is as busy as a bee.

Literary Elements/Devices of Poetry Symbolism Symbolism is using symbols to signify ideas and qualities, giving them symbolic meanings that are different from the literal meanings. Examples : the color white stands for purity black represents evil roses stand for romance
