Look at the pictures: Construct sentences using the pictures.

Read and analyze the following sentence. Tristan brushes his teeth everyday. He brushes his teeth everyday. I brush my teeth everyday. The pupils brush their teeth everyday.

What is the subject in t he 1 st sentence? 2 nd sentence? 3 rd sentence? 4 th sentence? Is the subject in the 1 st sentence singular or plural? In the 2 nd sentence? in 3 rd sentence? And in the 4 th sentence?

What is the predicate in each sentence? What have you notice with the verb if the subject is singular? How about if the subject is plural?

Subject-verb agreement is the grammatical rule that the verb or verbs in a sentence must match the number, person, and gender of the subject.  1. Singular subject used the be-verb is, was, and has . Ex: Sugar is sweet. Allyson was my former pupil. She has nothing to say.  

2. Singular subject must take the s-form of the verb. Ex: Sampaguita smells sweet. Turtle walks slowly. 3. Plural subject used the be-verb are, were and have . Ex: Chocolates and candies are sweet. They were my former pupils. Do you have a new pencil?

4. Plural subject must take the base-form of the verb. Ex: Sampaguita and Ilang-ilang smell sweet. Kangaroos walk faster.
