What happens next? Update your learner at risk lists – use the term 1 results. Study the results of each task – where did your learners underperform. Make a list of the skills that your learners need additional assistance. Develop intervention lessons to assist these learners –keep a register of the additional classes.

ALL tasks must be completed – do not be selective in what you want to do! Highlight/ underline what you have done. Include the date . Literature assignment EFAL: Question Paper + Teacher’s Guide + Marking guideline. This is an assignment – not a test. Learners can have all their notes with them, but they are NOT allowed to do it at home. Notes: Delete what is not applicable to your learners. Be specific: tell your learners which short story / poem / Act / Chapter they need to focus on. Set your memorandum according to the poem/short story/ chapter/ Act you decided on.

MODERATION 1) Neat, well-organised file : use a ringbinder file for the teacher’s SBA file. 2) All tasks have been completed as per programme of assessment. Place all tasks in the order according to the assessment programme. 3) All tasks are included with the relevant memo/rubric . Every task must have a clear task, memo/rubric. Tasks must be neatly typed. 4) Evidence of moderation . All tasks must be moderated by HOD and tools must be available. Moderation in green pen by HOD. Signed and dated. 5) Mark sheets : ALL classes! Learners who have been selected are highlighted on marksheet. 6) Programme of assessment – included and dated. 7) Educator and learner file indexes included.
PLEASE! PLEASE! Be objective and precise. All SBA tasks must be completed under controlled test conditions. NO cellphones , NO dictionaries, NO planning at home! Be on the lookout for plagiarism – learner is given 0 and has to redo the task under controlled exam conditions. If any irregularities are suspected – the whole grade 12 group’s SBA tasks will have to submitted for verification. Irregularities are noted and sent to the Moderation Unit – this may lead to SBA marks being rejected! If SBA marks are rejected – then only the final raw exam marks are taken into consideration. Moderated marks must be changed on SASAMS.
Challenges noted Listening test: The memo and the task do not correspond. TM can’t moderate. Lenient marking Essay: Errors not indicated. Global marking = X Plagiarism: Learner is awarded 0. No break down of marks. No adherence to rubric. Files: Tasks in learner’s file does not correspond with the name on declaration. Missing tasks.
ORALS
Grade 12 ORALS ORALS = PAPER 4 EXAM! DO NOT waste time in CLASS! Arrange specific dates and times before /after school. Evidence of the prepared speech + unprepared speech. Learners MUST use visuals: power point presentations, posters etc. Use the correct rubrics. Official DBE oral rubrics. ALL Learners must have ORAL marks! Clearly indicate how the marks have been awarded – make notes on the rubric. Format of oral moderation: face-to-face. VERY IMPORTANT!: Keep the oral marks OF ALL learners – even if they leave the school!
Grade 12 Oral Date for submission of orals: 3-6 June 202 4 at Belvedere School M emo / 202 4 : will be sent regarding the documents that have to be submitted. O ral Management plan will be included. Provincial Oral moderation is starting on 9 July to 8 August Face to face moderation by the DSA. Six learners + 4 learners (on standby) will be selected. Central venues will be identified. Make sure you are on time.

Challenges: ORALS Task: Prepared reading Learners have to choose a suitable passage (not literature text). Maintain good posture and eye contact as you read. Practise pronouncing all the words correctly. Remember that the educator will be required to answer questions about the passage Task: Prepared Speech/ Unprepared Speech Do thorough research on your chosen topic. Speech should be three minutes long. Show learners how to use cue card. Evidence of visual aids, pictures, drawings, poster.

What are the challenges noted ? DH management No evidence of SBA & SC verrification No reports Subject meetings are not comprehensive. No profiling and tracking of progressed / high risk learners. No feedback from PLG meetings lack of moderation. Educators: ATP is not followed /selected activities Lack of synergy between educators teaching same grade. Lack of quality activities. Lots of notes - no interaction with notes. Marking by learners: no corrections. LAck of writing activties.
SBA and SC SBA and SC is monitored. Educators teaching the same grade – work together + plan together. One person is the pacesetter and is responsible for the all the copies/ lessons/ etc. School visit: SC and SBA is verified. Continuous monitoring by SMT/ District.

Subject Support Strategies
Subject support strategies The use of RELAB in Gr 10 and 11 Ensure maximum performance is attained in Orals and SBA to guarantee a strong year mark that secures a learners 50%, going into a final NSC exam. Weekly informal tests The Languages 45%; 60%; 80% to pass strategy. Emphasis on providing a differentiated approach to cater for different categories of learners Phakama YouTube lessons especially the revision lessons prior to the exams being written. Rersources from Google Drive is used optimally! QR codes to access resources.
Profiling
Do you know your learners? Update the list of high risk learners after term 1 results. Learners failing English HL / FAL Learners below 50% (Eng HL) and below 40% (EFAL). Progressed learners Track progress: mark (term 4 2023) + mark (term 1 2024) Compile a list of your high flyers. Learners in level 7 category (term 1 2024) ALL educators should have a list of these learners. How are you assisting them?
Make sure your learners are exam fit
M INI-TESTS APPROACH Informal tests/ quizzes will assist learners in dealing with time management and the type of questions that are expected from them in the exam. Weekly report: Evidence of tests done. Clearly indicate mini-test Who marks it? The learners!
