Rena’s Broom of Hope Rena was a kind and smart girl who lived in a small Ata village in the mountains of Manara . She loved going to school and learning new things. Rena had a special talent. She knew how to make brooms using tahit and bamboo. Her grandmother taught her how to do it. The brooms were strong and tied with colorful strings that showed her culture. One rainy season, Rena’s father got very sick. He couldn’t work in the fields anymore. Their food started to run out, and Rena saw how worried her mother was. Rena wanted to help. After school, she went to the forest to collect grass and bamboo. Then she made brooms at home. She worked hard, putting love and care into each one. One day, Rena brought her brooms to school. During recess, she quietly asked her teachers, “Ma’am, Sir… would you like to buy a broom? I made them myself.” Her teachers were surprised and happy.
