C. Discussion of concepts
Discuss what is the definition of Jargon
Jargon is a technical or specialized language.
Professions and other fields or disciplines have
their own language. It is important to understand
the meanings of the words and their context so
that we can incorporate jargons into our own
language.
Present examples of jargons through a
conversation between a dentist and his patient
and ask the students to define the different
terminology used.
Dr. Cruz: Good morning Billy, how are you
doing today?
Billy: I’m fine. I’ve suffered some gum problem
recently.
Dr. Cruz: Well, we’ll take a look. Please recline
and open your mouth.
Billy: (after being examined) How does it look?
Dr. Cruz: Well, there is an inflammation in some
part of your gums. I think we need to do a new
set of radiographs.
Billy: Is there something wrong? It looks like
you may have a few cavities.
Dr. Cruz: No, no, it is a standard procedure.
Billy: That not good news.
Dr. Cruz: They are just two and they look
superficial. We need to identify other decay and
make sure that there isn’t any in between the
teeth.
1. a hold in the
tooth resulting
from a decay
2. shallow, not
deep
3. irritation that
is often
painful usually
of the gums

back
