A Letter To God INTRODUCTION The story, “A Letter to God” by G.L.Fluentor revolves around the idea of having unquestionable belief in something. The story is set in Latin-American Country. Lencho, the Farmer, who is the Protoganist of the story, Writer a letter to god seeking help from the almighty after discovering his entire field of Corn destroyed by a dwasting Hailstorm. Although his wishes get fulfilled partially, if not completely, he is ungrateful in the end and questions postmaster who actually helped him with money in the name of God.

ABOUT WRITER G.L.FUENTOR G.L.FUENTOR was born on July 11, 1897, at Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. He first went to sea as a deek boy with his father at the age of 10. As a Teenager, Fuenter worked on cargo ships that went out of the Canary Islans to Trimidad and Puerto Rico. He also saited to the spaniah part of valenci and sevittah to South America. He migrated permanently to Cuba at the age of 22. Fuenter a lifelong cigar smoker died from cancer in 2002, at the age of 105 years.

Main Characters of the Story Lencho - Lencho is the main character of the story “THE LETTER TO GOD”. He is a poor farmer who is the solo bried earner of his family. He had much faith in god. Lencho lived in a small house which is situated on the erest of a low hill in a valley. He has a wife and they have 4 boys. Throughout the morning Lencho sat in his house and writed for the rain to come. He wished the rain as a shower of his field of ripe corn in which a shower or downpour is much needed for good harvest but due to hailstorm the crops were destroyed. Lencho write a letter to God as he thought as he would be the only one to help him in his bad times. He wrote a letter addressing God to send him 100 pesos, so that he and his family can survive in such difficult situation. The Post Office Employees- The post office employees were very Kind persons. They have make every effort to help Lencho. They beliened that only innocent and native type of people can write a letter to god. They were considerate and full of companion. They wondered at the faith of man who wrote that letter. They contribuited much or some according as their capacity for the “Act of Charity ”

They couldn’t collect the 100 pesos but send only 70 pesos to lencho in an envelope with a single word written on it as a signature: GOD 3. Postmaster- The Postmaster was a fat and Amiable fellow. He was a sensible and compassionate human being who was amazed by the depth of faith in god. He become serious and wanted to help Lencho because he didn’t want his faith to be shaken. The postmaster himself gave a part of his salary and requested his employees and few friends to contribuite for charity. He felt happy and satisfied when Lencho received the money. This shows that he was a kind and empathetic person as well. He loved to help others.

SUMMARY The story “A Letter to God” by G.L.Fuenter depicts unwavering faith of a farmer named Lencho, in God. It begins with the farmer lencho expecting for a rain shower to nourish his field of Corn. He is confident that his harvest is going to yield him a huge profits just like it does every year. To his upmost excitement rainfall did happen but sooner, it turned into a hailstorm. Destroying his entire crop yield. This damage cause a thrust to the family’s survival as their entire childhood was dependent on the year product. Although, Disheartened, the family had robust in almighty. Thus, Lencho decided to write a letter to god asking for help. He went to town to post his letter addressed it to god. The letter on being noticed by the postmaster at first amused him but then motivated him want t do something for the farmer. So, that his firm belief in “GOD” should not be shaken. He contribuites from his salary and collects money from his colleagues and his friends who are willing to do so but couldn`t collect the whole amount, he could only collect 70 pesos which he give to lencho by post but lencho have complete faith in god that he could never made a mistake. Then, Lencho again writes a letter to god and said to god that the employees that work in postoffice took a part of money send by the God. So, send money to me from another way, do not send through Post Office.
