REPORT WRITING A Report is a factual description of an event or incident. It is a vivid expression of a person’s experience and also a commentary on the incidents seen by the reporter.

POINTS TO REMEMBER Give a title/ heading to your report along with the name of the of the reporter. Use Passive voice expression in the Past Tense as you are reporting an event/ incident which is already over. Always give factual account of the event focusing on the highlights of the event with focus on priority issues/ events. It has to be an impersonal account of the event written in a matter of fact style.

SCHOOL MAGAZINE Readership is confined mainly to the school only. Deals with the events that have taken place in the school The format includes only the HEADING, followed by a byline with the name of the REPORTER and DESIGNATION.. Contents should include details like WHAT, WHEN, WHERE and WHO in the opening paragraph The main body should deal with ‘HOW’ details. Conclusion should mention the REACTION of an eye witness account.

As the name suggests, such reports are published in the news paper. It is more IMPERSONAL. Format includes a HEADING , followed by the name of the REPORTER or the AGENCY . DATE of publication of the news and PLACE of the event. First paragraph includes WHAT,WHEN, WHERE and WHO Second paragraph deals with the HOW details.
