English for Storytelling Using Time Words to Tell a Story

Learning Objectives • Understand how to arrange events in a story using time words • Identify where, when, and who in a story • Write a short personal story (3 descriptive paragraphs)

Time Words (Sequence Markers) Examples: • First, Next, Then, After that, Finally • Yesterday, Last week, Two years ago

Elements of a Story (3W) • Where → Place (at school, in my hometown, on the beach) • When → Time (last holiday, in 2020, yesterday evening) • Who → People (my family, my teacher, my best friend)

Story Structure 1. Orientation → Introduction (who, where, when) 2. Events → Sequence of actions 3. Ending → Closing / reflection

Language Focus • Use Simple Past Tense: went, saw, played, studied • Use linking words for coherence: and, but, because

Read the short text: “Last Sunday, I went to the park with my family. First, we had breakfast together. Then, we played football. After that, we took many pictures. Finally, we went home in the afternoon.” Questions: - When did it happen? - Where did it happen? - Who was involved? - What happened first, next, then, and finally?

Put these sentences in the correct order: 1. Finally, I went home and slept. 2. First, I woke up late in the morning. 3. After that, I met my friends at the café. 4. Then, I went shopping at the mall.

Make a plan of your story: - Title - When? - Where? - Who? - Events (at least 3 sequence words) - Ending

A Memorable School Trip Paragraph 1 – Orientation Last year, my classmates and I went on a school trip to Bandung. We left early by bus, and the journey took six hours. Everyone was so excited; we sang songs and shared snacks. Paragraph 2 – Events Our first destination was Tangkuban Perahu . The view was amazing, and the air was fresh. We walked around the crater, took photos, and bought souvenirs. After that, we visited a strawberry farm. Paragraph 3 – Ending In the evening, we had dinner together before going back to the hotel. Everyone looked tired but happy. That trip will always be one of the best memories in my school life.

Write your own personal experience in 3 descriptive paragraphs. Guidelines: - Each paragraph must have 3–5 sentences - Use time words (First, Then, After that, Finally) - Mention where, when, who - Use Simple Past Tense
