CORE LEARNING AREA
STANDARD The learner demonstrates an understanding of basic concepts and processes in music and art through
appreciation, analysis and performance for his/her self-development, celebration of his/her Filipino cultural
identity and diversity, and expansion of his/her world vision.
KEY STAGE STANDARD (4 to 6) The learner demonstrates understanding of basic elements and concepts through performing, creating, and
responding, aimed towards the development of appreciation of music and art, and acquisition of basic
knowledge and skills.
GRADE LEVEL STANDARD (5) Through exploration, the learner demonstrates a deeper understanding of basic knowledge and skills
in music and art, towards self-development, the celebration of Filipino cultural identity and diversity, and
expansion of one’s world vision.
QUARTER FIRST
UNIT NUMBER 1
UNIT TITLE RHYTHMS AND EXPRESSIONS
TIME FRAME 9 meetings
Unit 1 provides the students with musical experiences that focus on
rhythm and expressive elements of music such as tempo and dynamics.
In this unit the students will learn about the basic time signatures of simple
meters, different note and rest values, rhythmic patterns and the different
dynamics and tempo markings. The students will experience performing
music through moving, singing, instrument playing, analyzing, and
creating. These musical activities will allow the students to have a deeper
understanding of music.

QUARTER THIRD
UNIT NUMBER 3
UNIT TITLE HARMONY AND TEXTURE
TIME FRAME 9 meetings
Unit III focuses on harmony and texture. Harmony is produced when two or more pitches are
sounded together. There are many ways of producing harmony like singing round songs, partner
songs, songs with ostinato, songs with descant, songs with chords, and songs with intervals moving
along with the melody. While texture is the result of the way melodic and rhythmic sounds are
used and combined in a composition. The texture of music may be thin or thick depending on
how the sounds are used and combined together. Form is the overall structure or design of a
song or music. It consists of smaller parts (phrase) and bigger parts (sections). The design of
music will depend on the way these parts are arranged through repetition and contrast. This
unit will provide the students with musical experiences such as singing, moving, listening, and
creating. It is also in this unit that the students will perform songs harmonized in different ways
to produce a thick musical texture and perform created songs with different musical structures.

QUARTER FOURTH
UNIT NUMBER 4
UNIT TITLE TIMBRE AND FORM
TIME FRAME 9 meetings
Unit IV focuses on the element of music which is timbre. Timbre refers
to the unique quality of sounds which helps distinguish different sound
around us such as vocal and instrumental sounds. Timbre can be light,
heavy, dark, bright, shrill, nasal, clear, warm, high or low to name a few. This
unit will provide the students with musical experiences on timbre through
singing, moving, watching, listening, playing musical games, and creating
simple rhythmic ostinato. This unit will also allow the students to distinguish
their singing voice either as soprano, alto, tenor, or bass and be able to
experience to play in an ensemble using musical accompaniment.

QUARTER FIRST
UNIT NUMBER 1
UNIT TITLE PHYSICAL FITNESS
TIME FRAME 9 meetings
Unit 1 focuses on the physical activity pyramid and physical fitness. In
this unit, the students will be able to discern which of their daily activities
are helping them become physically active and which are making them
sedentary. Thus, they will be able to adjust and design their own daily
physical activities which will help them become physically fit and healthy.
In this unit, the students will be able to assess their level of fitness through
fitness tests and will be able to make decisions on how to improve the
different physical fitness components, both health-related and skill-related.

such as target games, striking and fielding and invasion games, and net/
wall games. These games aim to develop students who understand the
importance of physical activities and students who display joy of effort,
respect for others and fair play during the games. These games will not
only help them become physically fit but also prepare them for more
complex and challenging sports.
