Theory of Modeling And Role Modeling
Learning objectives At the end of this presentation we will be able to learn: Discus brief introduction of theorist Define modeling and role modeling Define theoretical sources of the theory Describe major concepts of this theory Explain theoretical underpinnings Explain metaparadigm of this theory Discus aims of this theory Nursing intervention according to this theory
Theorist introduction Helen C.Erikson was born in 1936. 1957-diploma saginwa general hospital school of nursing 1974-BSN The university of michigan . 1976-MS in psychiatric and medical surgical nursing university of Michigan. 1984-PhD in educational psycalogy The university of Michigan.
Modeling Modeling is to gain an understanding of the clients world from the clients perspectives. that is to build a model of the client world view. Modeling occurs as the nurse accepts and understand her clients.
Role modeling Role modeling occurs when nurse plan and implement intervention that are unique for the client. The nurse facilitate and nurtures the individual in attaining ,maintaining or promoting health through purpose full intervention is called role modeling.
cont Role modeling starts when the nurse moves from the analysis phase of the nursing process to the planning of nursing
Theoretical sources The concept of this theory were drawn from the work of: Maslow’s theory of hierarchy of needs Erikson theory of psychosocial stages Piaget theory of cognitive development
Commonalities and differences Erickson , tomlin , and swain believe that although people are alike because of their holism, lifetime growth and development, they are also different because of inherent endowment, adaptation, and self care knowledge
commonalities People are like because of their: Holism Basic needs Lifetime growth and development Affiliated-individuation
Differences People are different because of their: Inherent empowerment Adaptation Adaptation potential Self-care Self-care knowledge Self-care recourses Self-care action
Theoretical underpinnings Individual moves through stages in life, relying on accrued resources to meet needs. Lower level needs must be met before high-level needs(required for survival) Not meeting needs=tension Meeting needs= facilitates growth adaptation: needs met, diminished stress, and new resources built.
Goals of intervention This theory states five goals of nursing interventions as: Build trust Promote client positive orientation Promote client control Affirm and promote client strenghts Set mutual, health-directed goal
Aim of theory The theory enables the nurse to care for nurture each client with an awareness of and respect for individuals uniqueness Its based on client need It empower the patient to grow to heal
summary Henlen erikson , tolman and mary ann developed the modeling and role modeling theory They view nursing as a self-care model based on the clients perception of the world and adaptations to stressor They asserted that each individual is unique and some self-care knowledge and needs.
Summary Nurses in this theory facilitate, nurture and accept the person unconditionally The nurse model(assesses),role model(plan)and intervenes in this interpersonal and interactive theory The focus of this theory is on the person.
