Evertor and Invertor of foot Dr. Tulika chaudhary
Primary: Peroneus longus Peroneus brevis Secondary: Peroneus tertius Extensor digitorum longus Evertor of foot
Eversion of foot
O rigin : Upper 2/3 rd of the outer surface of fibula Insertion :undersurface of 1 st cuneiform & 1 st metatarsal Passes posteriorly lateral malleolus Primary pronator of subtalar joint Peroneus longus
Evertor of foot Planterflexor Peroneus longus
Origin : lower 2/3 rd of outer surface of the fibula Insertion : lateral side of the base of the 5 th metatarsal Passes posteriorly to the lateral malleolus It is also primary pronator of subtalar joint Peroneus brevis
Eversion Planterflexion Peroneus brevis
Peroneus longus and brevis muscles pass lateral to the subtalar joint . Their primary function are pronation of subtalar joint Their tendon passes posterior but close to ankle axis and thus they are weak planter flexor Note:
Origin : Lower fibula Insertion : dorsal surface of 5 th metatarsal Passes anterior to lateral melleolus Peroneus tertius
Eversion D orsiflexion Peroneus tertius
Subtalar & talocrural joint axis
Origin : lateral condyle of tibia & anterior surface of fibula Insertion : middle & distal phalanges of four lateral toes Passes anterior to lateral malleolus Extensor digitorum longus
Toe extension Dorsiflexion Eversion Extensor digitorum longus
Tibialis anterior Tibialis posterior Flexor hallucis longus Flexor digitorum longu s Extensor hallucis longus Invertors of foot
Origin : Lateral tibial condyle & 2/3 rd of the shaft Insertion : medial cuneiform & 1 st metatarsal Passes anterior to medial malleolus Tibialis anterior muscles passes medial to subtalar axis and is a key supinator of the subtalar and transverse talar joints Tibialis anterior
Inversion of foot
Inversion Dorsiflexion of foot Support medial arch of foot Tibialis anterior
Ori gin : Posterior surface of the upper half of the adjacent surface of tibia & fibula Insertion : Navicular ,cuneiform & cuboid bones and base of the 2 nd -5 th metatarsal Passes posterior to medial melleolus Tibialis posterior
Planterflexion Inversion Tibialis posterior
Origin :middle half of the posterior surface of the fibula Insertion :distal phalanx of the great toe, planter surface Passes posteriorly to medial melleolus Flexor hallucis longus
Flexion of big toe Planterflexion Inversion of foot Flexor hallucis longus
Origin: middle 1/3 rd of the posterior surface of tibia Insertion: base of the distal phalanges of each of lateral four toes Passes posterior to medial malleolus Flexor digitorum longus
Inversion of foot Planterflexion of ankle Toe flexion Flexor digitorum longus
Origin : Middle 2/3 rd of inner surface of front of the fibula Insertion :top of the distal phalanx of the great toe Passes anteriorly Extensor hallucis longus
Dorsiflexion Inversion Extension of great toe Extensor hallucis longus
