INTRODUCTION Unemployment is a pressing global issue with severe effects in developing countries like Nigeria. AMAC Area Council is significantly impacted by rising unemployment rates. METHODOLOGY Approach Used: Mixed Methods: Surveys, interviews, and secondary data analysis. Sample: 200 respondents (unemployed individuals, business owners, and community leaders ). FINDINGS – CAUSES OF UNEMPLOYMENT Skill Gaps: Education not aligned with market needs. Infrastructural Deficits: Poor roads, power supply, etc. Population Growth: Jobs fail to keep pace with rapid migration. Policy Inefficiencies: Weak governance and corruption.

FINDINGS – IMPACTS ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT Economic Impacts : Increased poverty and reduced consumer spending. Stunted economic growth. Social Impacts : Increased crime, drug abuse, and youth unrest. Weakening of social cohesion and trust. Environmental Impacts : Illegal logging and resource exploitation. Environmental degradation due to urban sprawl.

FINDINGS – PROPOSED SOLUTIONS BY RESPONDENTS Short-Term Solutions : Establish vocational training programs. Support SMEs with funding and incentives. Long-Term Solutions : Reform education to align with labor market needs. Invest in infrastructure to attract businesses. Promote eco-friendly business initiatives.

CONCLUSION Unemployment significantly threatens sustainable development in AMAC. Addressing unemployment involves tackling its root causes and implementing targeted solutions. Collaboration between government, private sector, and communities is essential.

RECOMMENDATIONS Short-Term Recommendations : Launch skill development programs. Provide financial incentives for entrepreneurs. Long-Term Recommendations : Reform education and infrastructure. Encourage eco-friendly and sustainable businesses.
