Welcome ! WE ARE GROUP 2 Members: Alea Fae S. Isidro, Cheszcka Jullien Villon, Micose Baratang , Xzyreen Bebina A. Niño

What will we discuss? Extinction happens when a kind of animal disappears from the Earth forever. In this presentation, us, Group 2, will talk about extinct animals and what caused them to vanish. Some were lost because of natural events, while others disappeared because of human activities like hunting or destroying their homes. As we share what we’ve learned, we hope to help others understand why extinction matters and how it can still happen today.

Let's get started!

Indonesia Bali Tiger (Panthera tigris balica ) Also known as the "Sunda island tiger" Habitat: Forested areas of the island of Bali, Indonesia  Predator Diet: Javan Rusa deer, Red Junglefowl, Wild boar, and Indian Muntjac  Life span: 10-15 years Class: Mammalia Genus: Panthera Family: Felidae Kingdom: Animalia Order: Carnivora Phylum: Chordata Size: 7.2 to 7.5 feet (male); 6.2 to 6.9 feet (female) Last sighted: last known individual, an adult female, was shot and killed on September 27th 1937 in West Bali; Officialy declared extinct: 2003 Cause of extinction: Habitat loss and hunting

Indonesia Javan Tiger (Panthera tigris sondaica ) Habitat: Island of Java, Indonesia Predator Diet: Banteng , Javan Rusa deer, monitor lizards Life Span: 10-12 years Class: Mammalia Genus: Panthera Family: Felidae Kingdom: Animalia Order: Carnivora Phylum: Chordata Size: 8.3 feet (male) ; 8 feet (female) Last Sighted: last confirmed sighting of a Javan tiger was in 1976 within Meru Betiri National Park in Java, Indonesia Officially declared extinct: 2008 Cause of extinction: habitat loss and hunting

United States of America Megalonyx (Greek, "great-claw")  Also known as Jefferson's Ground sloth -Herbivore Lifespan: 19 years Habitat: areas with spruce-dominated, mixed conifer-hardwood forests.  Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Pilosa Family: Megalonychidae Genus: Megalonyx Height: 3 meters (9.8 ft) Weight: 1,000 kilograms (2,200  lb ) Went extinct around 11,000 years ago. This extinction event happened at the end of the Pleistocene epoch.

United States of America Bison antiquus Also known as the Ancient Bison Herbivore Habitat: grasslands, open woodlands, and open wetlands across North America Lifespan: 14-16 years Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Artiodactyla Family: Bovidae Subfamily: Bovinae Genus: Bison Height: Males 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall at the shoulder. Brazil Spix’s Macaw ( Cyanopsitta Spixii ) Also known as the “little blue macaw” Habitat: Caatinga Dry Forest in Northeastern Brazil Diet: seeds, nuts, and fruits Prey Life span: 20-40 years  Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Aves Order: Psittaciformes Family: Psittadae Tribe: Arini Genus: Cyanopsitta Species: C. spixii   Size: about 22 inches in length Last sighted: 2000 in Caruçá , Bahia, Brazil Cause: habitat loss and capture for pet trade

What is the leading cause of extinction? Human activities has cause extinctions of various animals. Humans have exploited animal habitats for industrialization due to increase in human population and over-harvesting resources at unsustainable rates. Climate change has a huge impact on the Earth in which ice caps have begun melting and caused rising sea levels and has caused unbearable heat in which some animals cannot survive and reproduce. another major factor is pollution caused by human untidiness, scattering of indestructible waste, and dumping toxic waste in the water. Humans have caused long term effects on the Earth because of their actions and greed for materialism.
