Family Structures and Legacies LEARNING COMPETENCIES: Appraise one's family structure and the type of care he/she gives and receives, which may help in understanding himself/herself better. Make a genogram and trace certain physical, personality, or behavioral attributes through generations. Prepare a plan on how to make the family members firmer and gentler with each other.

Objectives Identify and describe their own family structure. Reflect on the type of care they give and receive within the family. Create a basic genogram tracing family attributes across generations. Formulate a family-strengthening action plan to foster harmony and understanding.

Activity: Title: “Draw Your Family” Instructions: Ask students to quickly draw their family tree (up to grandparents if possible) including names, ages, and relationships. Then, have them add symbols or words that represent one physical, personality, or behavioral trait for each person (e.g., “kind,” “strict,” “tall,” “artistic,” etc.).

Analysis: Guide Questions: What did you notice about your family structure? Are there traits or behaviors that appear across different generations? How would you describe the care you receive from and give to your family? How does your family environment influence your behavior and self-understanding?

Abstraction: What is Genogram?

APPLICATION: Activity 1: Create Your Genogram Provide a template or let students draw their own genogram (3 generations if possible). Include physical, personality, and behavioral attributes. Activity 2: Family Strengthening Plan Students will write a short personal plan (half-page to one-page) answering: What is one thing I appreciate about my family? What is one challenge I want to address? What actions can I take to help my family become firmer and gentler with each other?
