William Shakespeare (1564-1616) - an English poet and playwright, often considered the greatest English-language writer and one of the best playwrights in the world. He is often called England's national poet. His most famous works are “Hamlet”, “King Lear”, “Macbeth” and “Othello”.

Daniel Defoe (1660-1731 ) - an English writer and publicist. He is most famous for his novel  “Robinson Crusoe”. Defoe is considered one of the first supporters of the novel as a genre. He helped popularize the genre in the UK, and some consider him one of the founders of the English novel.

Robert Burns (1759-1796) - a Scottish poet who wrote hundred of songs and poems, mainly on country life, love and national pride. His famous poems are “A Red, Red Rose” and “My Heart's In The Highlands”.

Walter Scott ( 1771-1832 ) - a Scottish writer and a poet, especially famous for his stories of Scottish life, several of them are based on historical characters, such as “Ivanhoe” and “The Heart of Midlothian”.

Charles Dickens an English writer, novelist and essayist. He became the most popular English-language writer during his lifetime. A classic of world literature, one of the largest prose writers of the 19th century. He wrote such classic novels as ”Oliver Twist”, ”A Christmas Carol”, ”David Copperfield”, ”A Tale of Two Cities” and ”Great Expectations”.  ( 1812-1870 )

Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) an English writer, mathematician, logician, philosopher. His most famous books include  “ Alice's Adventures in Wonderland” and  “ Through the Looking-Glass ” .

Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) - an Irish poet and playwright. He was a popular literary figure in late Victorian England. His most famous works are “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and “The Importance of Being Earnest”.
