THE FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM PRESENTATION

The female reproductive system has many roles. It produces eggs in the ovaries which are transported via the oviducts. A male sperm can fertilize the egg to produce an embryo, which can implant in the uterus wall and eventually develop into a baby. The female reproductive system regulates this process by various different hormones, which are produced in the ovaries and pituitary gland. ROLE OF THE FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

The vagina is a canal that joins the cervix (lower part of uterus) muscular to the outside of the body. It is where the penis enters during sexual intercourse and where the baby exits the body during childbirth. The vagina is also known as the birth canal . VAGINA

The cervix is the lower, narrow portion of the uterus where it joins with the top end of the vagina. It is clindrical or conical in shape and protrudes through the upper anterior vaginal wall. The cervix is also named the neck of the uterus. CERVIX

The uterus is pear-shaped muscular organ. A fertilized egg can implant in the uterus wall and develop from an embryo to a baby over the course of a pregnancy. If the egg does not embed in the wall of the uterus, a female begins menstruation. UTERUS

The oviducts are two tubes which connect the ovaries to the uterus. Oviducts are also known as fallopian tubes. There it travels toward the uterus, are lined with hair like cells called cilia to help move the egg from the ovary to the uterus. This trip takes hours or days. OVIDUCT

The ovaries are small, paired organs that are located near lateral walls of the pelvic cavity. They contain undeveloped eggs (ova) which are present from birth. The process by which the ovum is released is called ovulation. One of the ovaries releases a mature egg as part of the menstrual cycle. OVARIES

PARTS OF FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

PROCESS OF FERTILIZATION Human fertilization is the union of a human egg and sperm, usually occurring in the ampulla of the uterine tube. The result of this union is the production of zygote cell, or fertilized egg initiating prenatal development. The process of fertilization involves a sperm fusing with an ovum. The most common sequence begins with ejaculation during copulation, follows with ovulation and finishes with fertilization.
